Project Parasol was first conceived in 2005 by collaborators Chelsea P. Manders and Christopher Fowler during their work with the residents at Pine Villa Seniors’ Residence. Through exploration of text, song, improvisation, and story-telling, the seniors were able to engage, both with artists and each other, on a level not usually achieved in their daily lives.
This dialogue, an exchange of perspectives and experiences instigated by the transformative and community-focused nature of theatre, inspired Manders and Fowler revisit the creative process. Project Parasol is a vehicle for creation, a bridge between traditional and non-traditional theatre spaces, audiences, and events.
